According to the Latin American Herald Tribune, the bilingual film is currently shooting in Puerto Rico. Bruno Irizarry authored the screenplay and also directs the film.
"200 Cartas" is aiming for a summer 2012 release in theatres in Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Mexico and the United States.
Miranda stars as the film's protagonist, Raul, "an aspiring nuyorican artist [who] writes 200 letters to find the woman of his dreams in the island of Puerto Rico."
The cast also features Jaime Camil, Iris Chacon, Nydia Velazquez, Juan Manuel Lebron, Luis Raul, Mayra Matos, Otilio Warrington and Victor Alicea.
Miranda earned the 2008 Tony Award for Best Score to In the Heights, which also took the Tony for Best Musical. Miranda earned a Best Actor Tony nomination as well. He is currently represented with the musical Bring It On, which will launch its national tour in Los Angeles this October.
