Lifeline, a new musical tracking Alexander Fleming's word-changing discovery of penicillin in 1928, officially opens its Off-Broadway debut at the Alice Griffin Jewel Box Theatre at the Pershing Square Signature Center September 4 after beginning previews August 28. The run will continue through September 28.
The work, which features music and lyrics by Robin Hiley and a book by Becky Hope-Palmer, previously played two sold-out runs at Edinburgh Festival Fringe, then titled The Mould That Changed the World.
The cast, which mostly comprises performers from London and Scotland, includes Matthew Malthouse as Alexander Fleming, Kirsty MacLaren as Jess, Scott McClure as Aaron and Clowes, Robbie Scott as Julian and Pryce, Nicole Raquel Dennis as Amalia, and Mari McGinlay as Layla, along with ensemble members and understudies Richard Lounds, Sarah Haddath, and Graham Richardson. The show also features a chorus of New York-based scientists and healthcare professionals.
The musical features contributions from Lounds and Dr. Meghan Perry and is directed by Alex Howarth. Music is by James Ross, and choreography is by Wayne Parsons. Jessica Conway is producing.
