Journalist and Serial host Sarah Koenig is the central character in the new podcast musical Wait Wait Don’t Kill Me, which rolled out its first episode November 15 on the podcast network Wondery.
Wait Wait Don’t Kill Me bills itself as the first-ever musical to be produced as a serialized podcast.
Written by Dave Holstein (Weeds), with music and lyrics by Alan Schmuckler (Diary of a Wimpy Kid), the five-part musical offers its own satirical take on the real-life individuals and events from the first season of the investigative podcast series Serial.
It stars Leslie Kritzer (Something Rotten!) as Koenig, Jessie Cannizzaro as Ira Glass, Zachary Infante as Adnan Syed, and Renée Albulario as Hae Min Lee. Also featured are Greg Hildreth, Lilli Cooper, Alex Gould, Kate Loprest, Howie Michael Smith, Robin Virginie, and Clyde Voce.
Kevin Laibson directed the series that is executive produced by Jeffrey Glaser and Hernan Lopez. Allyson Morgan is line producer.
According to the creators, Wait Wait Don’t Kill Me is a “darkly comedic five-part musical satire that follows Serial host Sarah Koenig as she investigates the 1999 murder of high school student Hae Min Lee and explores the controversial thesis: What if Sarah did it?”
The podcast musical is presented as part of Wondery’s Secrets, Crimes & Audiotape drama franchise.
Wait Wait Don’t Kill Me is available on iTunes, Stitcher, and Wondery.com.
