Tony-winning Broadway veteran Len Cariou will return to the stage this fall in the New York premiere of Richard Vetere's Zagłada.
Directed by Maja Wampuszyc, performances are scheduled for October 16-November 2 at The American Theatre of Actors. Additional casting and creative team members will be announced at a later date.
In the play, journalist Danielle Hooper arrives in Queens to interview 90-year-old Jerzy Kozlowski for her book on World War II; he fires a gun at her, prompting his arrest. Kozlowski is suspected of collaborating with the Nazis at Buchenwald, and Homeland Security Agent Sonia Sokolow has 48 hours to prove Kozlowski’s collaboration so she can charge and extradite him to a country willing to try him for international war crimes.
Although inspired by history, the characters in the play are fictional.
Cariou won the 1979 Tony for Best Actor in a Musical for creating the title role in the original Broadway production of Stephen Sondheim's Sweeney Todd. He was also Tony-nominated for his performances in the original casts of Applause and A Little Night Music. His film credits include The Four
Seasons, Thirteen Days, About Schmidt, Flags of Our Fathers, Prisoners, and Spotlight. Cariou was nominated for an Emmy for Into the Storm and
is also known for roles in Murder, She Wrote; Brotherhood; Damages; and Blue Bloods.
