The cabaret duo The Skivvies, featuring Nick Cearley and Lauren Molina, will celebrate late Tony nominee Laurie Beechman September 22 at 9:30 PM at the newly renovated The Laurie Beechman Theatre.
Cearley and Molina have invited a host of Broadway favorites to perform the entirety of Beechman's 1980 solo recording Laurie and the Sighs, a punk/pop rock album that was released by Atlantic Records. The concert will also feature a few of Beechman's theatrical highlights.
The duo will be joined by Krysta Rodriguez, Bonnie Milligan, Talia Suskauer, Nora Schell, Marissa Rosen, Natalie Walker, Stephanie Torns, and Kelli Rabke.
"If you haven’t listened to the album," Cearley tells Playbill, "it’s really something special, and the vocals are insane. [And], the guests joining us for the show are the most insane belting gals I know."
Beechman made her Broadway debut in April 1977 in the original production of Annie, where she played a variety of roles, dazzling with her solo as the Star-to-Be in "N.Y.C." She was seen in the revival of The Pirates of Penzance and received a 1982 Tony nomination and won a Theatre World Award for playing the Narrator in the Broadway debut of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, the first woman to take on the role in the musical's history. She subsequently played Grizabella in Broadway's Cats and portrayed Fantine in Les Miserables.
Actor-musicians Cearley and Molina tour extensively as the underwear-clad musical duo whose ever-changing lineup of special guests join them in stripping down onstage to perform mash-ups and unconventional covers of pop tunes, showtunes, and their own original material.
During the pandemic, The Skivvies recorded their debut album, The Rocky Horror Skivvies Show, available in stores and streaming on all platforms.
