Killian Donnelly Reprises Role of Jean Valjean in London's Les Misérables Beginning October 31

Olivier nominee Killian Donnelly, recently seen as Bruce Bechdel in Fun Home at Dublin's Gate Theatre, steps into the role of Jean Valjean in the London production of Les Misérables beginning October 31 at the Sondheim Theatre.

Donnelly, who will continue for 15 weeks, succeeds Josh Piterman, who departed the production October 21 to return to his home in Australia for sudden family reasons.

Donnelly previously played Valjean in both the original West End production and the sell-out U.K. and Ireland tour of the musical. His other theatre credits include the title role in The Phantom of the Opera at His Majesty’s Theatre, Charlie Price in Kinky Boots on Broadway and in London (Olivier nomination), and Huey in the original London cast of Memphis (Olivier nomination).

The London production also currently stars Stewart Clarke as Javert, Katie Hall as Fantine, Will Callan as Marius, Amena El-Kindy as Éponine, Lulu-Mae Pears as Cosette, Luke Kempner as Thénardier, Claire Machin as Madame Thénardier, and Djavan van de Fliert as Enjolras.

This production officially opened January 16, 2020, following previews that began December 18, 2019.

Les Misérables is written by Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg and is based on the novel by Victor Hugo. It has music by Schönberg, lyrics by Herbert Kretzmer and original French text by Boublil and Jean-Marc Natel, additional material by James Fenton, and an adaptation by Trevor Nunn and John Caird.

Directed by James Powell and Laurence Connor, the Cameron Mackintosh production also features orchestrations by Stephen Metcalfe, Christopher Jahnke, and Stephen Brooker with original orchestrations by John Cameron, designs by Matt Kinley (inspired by the paintings of Victor Hugo), costumes by Andreane Neofitou and Christine Rowland, lighting by Paule Constable, sound by Mick Potter, musical staging by Michael Ashcroft and Geoffrey Garratt, and music supervision by Stephen Brooker and Alfonso Casado Trigo.
