Ron Fassler has adapted his theatrical memoir Up In The Cheap Seats: A Historical Memoir of Broadway as a cabaret show.
He will bring it to Feinstein’s/54 Below supper club January 5 with the help of a team of Broadway stars, including Kevin Chamberlin (The Addams Family), Lee Wilkoff (Little Shop of Horrors), Anita Gillette (Cabaret), Debbie Gravitte (Jerome Robbins Broadway), Stephen Bogardus (Falsettos), Elmore James (Big River), and Michael C. Bernardi (Fiddler on the Roof).
Fassler will narrate the show, which recounts his teen years in the 1970s as a Broadway fan, seeing more than 200 shows at at time when you could get a balcony seat for as little as $2.
The guest stars will offer stories of their own as they perform numbers from Cabaret, Fiddler on the Roof, Company, Applause, Hello, Dolly!, and other shows that were running at the time.
The concert will also feature performances by Justin Baret, Michael Caizzi, Alexandra Fassler Barrus, Sam Gravitte, and Matt Kurzyniec.
Producer Robert W. Schneider said, “Ron Fassler was one of [2017’s] most widely acclaimed theatrical authors. The passion that you read in his book is only a fraction of the energy, enthusiasm, and devotion that Ron brings to these anecdotes when he tells them out loud. Ron’s show reminds all of us why we first fell in love with Broadway.”
