Starting July 14, the annual summer season will run through the first week of August at Marist College in Poughkeepsie.

New York Stage and Film (NYSAF), one of the most popular programs that fosters new theatre work in the United States, has announced the complete casting for its 2023 Summer Season, which begins July 14 and will continue through August 6 at Marist College in Poughkeepsie, New York.

Featuring a variety of concerts and workshops—including a new solo play by Laurence Fishburne, a musical adaptation of A Wrinkle in Time, and more—this summer season marks 38 years since the NYSAF began their mission of incubating new pieces on their journey to the American theatrical canon.

The Summer Season will begin July 14 with a special reception and concert featuring Joe Iconis & Family. Proceeds from this reception will go towards NYSAF’s Early Career Apprentice Program, and scholarships for Marist College’s Summer Pre-College Program. 

Every Saturday from July 15 on will feature a play reading from an up-and-coming playwright, with this year's selection including Sopan Deb, Beth Henley, Emily Kaczmarek, and Jason Kim. Cast members for these readings will include Molly Griggs, Greg Keller, Sue Jean Kim, Jon Norman Schneider, Ugo Chukwu, Damon Daunno, Aria Kane, Colby Minifie, Gabrielle Policano, Miriam Silverman, Shannon Tyo, Siraj Huda, Keshav Moodliar, Reshma Shetty, Alok Tewari, Rita Wolf, Carolyn Braver, Lily Harris, and Will Turner.

On July 21, 22, and 23, a musical adaptation of Madeleine L’Engle's A Wrinkle in Time will be workshopped. Featuring a book by Lauren Yee,  music and lyrics by Heather Christian, and direction by Lee Sunday Evans, the company will feature Leanne Antonio, Kim Blanck, Jeffrey Cornelius, Major Curda, Ashley Perez Flanagan, Robi Hager, Emily Xu Hall, Katrina Lenk, Diego Lucano, Kenita Miller, Mia Pak, Martín Solá, Phillip Taratula, Katie Thompson, Adrienne Walker, and Jayke Workman.

On August 4, 5, and 6, a new dance driven initiative will be kicked off by Princess Lockerooo and Harold O’Neal. Titled Paradise Ballroom, the dance based musical features book and lyrics by Lockerooo, music by O’Neal, direction by Colette Robert, and choreography by Lockerooo. Featured dancers include Leanne Antonio, William Bailey (Jada Valenciaga), Tyrone Bevans, Tytus Larue James Gibson-Jackson, Isaiah Johnson, Jade Jones, Nicole Lambert, John-Michael Lyles, and Phillip Johnson Richardson.

Lastly, Tony and Emmy winner Laurence Fishburne will workshop his new solo play, Like They Do in the Movies, August 5 and 6. Fishburne will be directed by Leonard Foglia.
