Regional News Julia Knitel and Sam Gravitte Will Lead Cape Playhouse's Beautiful: The Carole King Musical

The Massachusetts venue has also announced casting for its summer production of Million Dollar Quartet.

Julia Knitel, recently seen Off-Broadway in Dead Outlaw, will play Carole King in Cape Playhouse's July 10–August 3 staging of Beautiful: The Carole King Musical in Dennis, Massachusetts.

Directed by David Ruttura with choreography by Joyce Chittick, the Tony-nominated Broadway musical charting the rise of songwriter King will also feature Sam Gravitte (Wicked) as Gerry Goffin, Trevor James Berger as Barry Mann, James Clow as Don Kirshner, Valerie Perri as Genie Kline, Brooke Aneece as Shirelle, Briana Brooks as Lucille, Chris Collins-Pisano as Tenor Righteous Brother, Fatima El-Bashir as Janelle Woods, Ellen Frary as Marilyn Wald/Betty, Albert Igbinigie as Drifter, Jacquez Linder-Long as Drifter, Jazz Madison as Little Eva, and Rhys Williams as Baritone Righteous Brother.

Beautiful, with a book by Douglas McGrath, will also have musical direction by Nick Williams, scenic design by Ryan Howell, costume design by Gail Baldoni, lighting design by Kirk Bookman, sound design by Emma Wilk, and production stage management by Daniel Everett.

The Cape Playhouse has also announced casting for its production of Million Dollar Quartet, which runs June 19–July 6 under the direction of Tony nominee Hunter Foster.

Colin Escott and Floyd Mutrux's musical—set on December 4, 1956, when four founding voices of rock and country music assembled and made history at Sun Studios in Memphis—will feature Jeremy Sevelovitz as Carl Perkins, Alessandro Viviano as Elvis Presley, Scott Moreau as Johnny Cash, Nat Zegree as Jerry Lee Lewis, Megan Reinking as Dyanne, Nathan Yates Douglass as Jay, Chance Wall as Sam Phillips, and Matt Spencer as W.S. “Fluke” Holland.

The production will have musical direction by Nat Zegree, scenic design by Josh Smith, costume design by Devario Simmons, lighting design by Kirk Bookman, sound design by Jeff Sherwood, and production stage management by Rebeca Monroe.

The Cape Playhouse season opens June 5 with Andy Mientus, Larry Owens, and Krystina Alabado in tick, tick…BOOM! The season will also feature Waitress (August 7–24) and The 39 Steps (August 28–September 7).
