Jonah Platt (Wicked, I'll Be Watching) will play country music star Dean Dillon in the new musical Tennessee Whiskey: The Musical, according to Deadline. As previously reported, the autobiographical jukebox musical is a collaboration between Dillon and playwright, director, and producer Dewey Moss (The Crusade of Connor Stephens) with Broadway aims.
Platt, who recently performed in the live broadcast of Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert, confirmed the news via Twitter.
PUMPED for this project and honored to help tell the story of this songwriting legend. I can only hope to one day grow a ‘stache half as magnificent. https://t.co/tvhWKR2VqA

Between 1982 and 1993, Dillon recorded six studio albums before focusing on songwriting. With a career spanning several decades, he has written songs for George Strait, George Jones, Kenny Chesney, Lee Ann Womack, and many more.
Tennessee Whiskey: The Musical is named after George Jones’ 1983 country hit (penned by Dillon), as well as the 2017 documentary on the singer-songwriter. The story will follow Dillon's life, his struggles with addiction, and look at the impact of his music.
According to Deadline, the musical will feature the songs “The Chair,” “Unwound,” “Marina Del Rey,” “Ocean Front Property,” “She Calls It Love,” “I’m Lying In Love With You,” “I’m Into the Bottle,” and the titular “Tennessee Whiskey.”
