Connecticut's Sharon Playhouse will present a benefit performance of Charles Busch's The Tale of the Allergist's Wife September 13 at 7 PM.
The staged reading of the Tony-nominated comedy will feature playwright Busch in the title role, joined by Tony winner Joanna Gleason (Into the Woods), Richard Kind (Only Murders in the Building), Tony nominee June Gable (Candide), and Rodd Cyrus (The Light in the Piazza).
The play finds Marjorie Taub, a middle-aged Upper West Side doctor’s
wife plunged into a midlife crisis of Medea-like
proportions, shaken out of her lethargy by the reappearance of a somewhat mysterious childhood friend.

Originally produced by Manhattan Theatre Club, Carole Shorenstein Hays, Daryl Roth, Stuart Thompson, and Douglas S. Cramer, The Tale of the Allergist's Wife ran on Broadway November 2, 2000–September 15, 2002, playing 25 previews and 777 performances. The show, directed by Lynne Meadow, received Tony nominations for Best Play, Best Actress in a Play (Linda Lavin), and Best Featured Actress in a Play (Michele Lee).
