Tony-winning director-choreographer Jerry Mitchell will be at the helm of a new stage musical of the 2000 film Coyote Ugly, set to make its world premiere in London's West End in 2027. A theatre, dates, and casting are to be announced.

The film and musical are adapted from a 1997 GQ article by Elizabeth Gilbert, recounting her time as a bartender at NYC's infamous Coyote Ugly bar, known for its bar-top dances from bartenders. Screenwriter Gina Wendkos is adapting her screenplay for the musical's book alongside Olivier winner Vikki Stone (Caroline). The score will feature the songs written by Diane Warren for the original film, including "Can't Fight the Moonlight," "Please Remember," "The Right Kind of Wrong," and "But I Do Love You," alongside new tunes also penned by Warren.

“For over 20 years I've been saying someone needs to do a Coyote Ugly musical," says Warren in a statement. I’m so excited it is finally happening and that I will be a part of it! Both the movie and the soundtrack are guilty pleasure classics and now a fun guilty pleasure musical just when we need it most!”

Jamie Wilson Productions and Nederlander Studios are producing with special permission from Buena Vista Theatrical Group.

“We’re inviting audiences to join the coyotes for a wild theatrical experience, where the music will capture all the heart and heat of the original story whilst igniting it anew for the next generation," says Wilson on behalf of the producing team.

The project will be the latest attempt to bring Warren's legendary, Grammy-winning song catalogue to the stage. A jukebox musical with rights to her entire body of work has been in the works since 2012.
