The York Theatre Company has announced plans to stage a week-long run of Jerry’s Girls, the musical revue celebrating the musicals of Tony Award-winning composer-lyricist Jerry Herman. Directed by Pamela Hunt, Jerry’s Girls will run August 5–13 at the York Theatre Company at St. Peters as part of its book-in-hand series, Musicals in Mufti.
Based on an original concept by Herman, Larry Alford, and Wayne Cilento, the show celebrates the larger-than-life female characters who inhabit Herman’s musicals, including Dolly Gallagher Levi of Hello, Dolly!; Auntie Mame Dennis of Mame; Countess Aurelia of Dear World; Mabel Normand of Mack and Mabel; and female impersonator ZaZa of La Cage aux Folles.
Casting will be announced shortly.
First presented on Broadway at the St. James Theatre in 1985, Jerry’s Girls originally starred Dorothy Loudon, Chita Rivera, and Leslie Uggams.
Tickets are currently on sale for York Theatre Company members only. Visit yorktheatre.org. Performances take place at the York Theatre Company at Saint Peter’s (619 Lexington Avenue at 54th Street).
