Associate artistic director David Kennedy, who staged Dinner with Friends at Westport last season, stages the Durang comedy that will continue through May 14.
Johnson (She Loves Me) and Lowrance (Dividing the Estate) play Bruce and Prudence, respectively, in a cast that also includes Trent Dawson (The Herbal Bed) as Stuart, Nick Gehlfuss ("Army Wives") as Andrew, Kathleen McNenny (Coram Boy, The Constant Wife) as Charlotte and Stephen Wallem ("Nurse Jackie") as Bob.
According to Westport, "After a disastrous first date, Bruce and Prudence seek solace in therapy---despite both their therapists being stark raving mad. And that's only the beginning of their problems. In Durang's topsy-turvy world, life is a potent cocktail of sexual mix-ups, relationship neuroses, and a serious lack of impulse control."
Beyond Therapy has a design team including Lee Savage (scenic design), Jennifer Caprio (costume design), Jeff Croiter (lighting design) and John Gromada (sound design).
Durang's works include Why Torture Is Wrong and the People Who Love Them, Sister Mary Ignatius Explains It All For You, Baby with the Bathwater, Betty's Summer Vacation, The Marriage of Bette and Boo, Laughing Wild, Miss Witherspoon and Adrift in Macao. He also provided material for the Broadway production of All About Me.
