Jeremy O. Harris will lead Substratum, a month-long retreat and writing residency for artists in collaboration with Gucci and hotel Monteverdi Tuscany. Hosted by the luxury boutique hotel, fellows of the residency will stay in a medieval village surrounded by the Val d’Orcia, while attending daily workshops with Harris.
Fellows of Substratum will also receive financial assistance throughout their stay, and will have on-site mentorship opportunities with creatives, such as rapper Kevin Abstract, filmmaker Janicza Bravo, documentarian Alexander Nanau, playwright Jordan Tannahill, Eliza Hittman, Jasmine Lee-Jones, to name only a few.
Substratum fellows will stay in one of Monteverdi Tuscany's oldest properties, a six-bedroom private village house from the 13th century. With access to world-class cuisine, rich culture, and breathtaking views, Substratum will provide artists with inspiration from every angle.
The residency will close with a showcase of the fellow's works, which will be open for the public to attend. Harris hopes that the residency will offer an abundance of new opportunities for artists to grow and have their work seen and celebrated. “Substratum allows me to continue my personal mission of lifting up under- and unproduced artists who have historically not had access to dynamic opportunities in the theatre industry," he said in a statement.
Further details will be announced in the coming weeks.
