Composer-conductor-teacher Leonard Bernstein, known to theatre fans for his scores to West Side Story, On the Town, Candide, and other musicals, is a beloved figure to the classical music world for his years as conductor of the New York Philharmonic, his concerts at Tanglewood, his Young People’s Concerts, and countless other credits.

To help celebrate the 100th anniversary of Bernstein’s birth, the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra is planning three special tribute concerts, November 9, 10, and 11, conducted by Wynton Marsalis. Leonard Bernstein at 100 that will include “unique arrangements“ of Bernstein musical themes crafted by Grammy Award-nominated composer and arranger Richard DeRosa, working with JLCO trombonist Vincent Gardner. The group will perform music from West Side Story and Candide, as well as “unexpected gems from Bernstein's vast repertoire.”

The Tony Award-winning composer was born August 25, 1918, and died October 14, 1990.
