Globe artistic director Jack O'Brien stages the work for the ninth year at his southern California stage, Nov. 11-Dec. 24. Featuring book and lyrics by Timothy Mason and music by Mel Marvin, the show opens Nov. 16.
The beloved Theodor Geisel (Dr. Seuss) holiday work set in Who-ville comes to life on stage with Goede (Angels in America, A Year with Frog and Toad) as the Grinch with local favorite Ryan Drummond as Young Max.
"How the Grinch Stole Christmas! has become a San Diego tradition," Globe executive director Louis G. Spisto stated in an announcement about the show which has played annually since 1998. "We thank Audrey Geisel (a.k.a. "Mrs. Dr. Seuss") for her generous gift to the Globe and to the San Diego community of this timeless holiday classic."
4,000 free tickets will be made available to children in the community through a special ticket outreach program — with the help of underwritten by presenting sponsor San Diego Union-Tribune and other San Diego corporations.
The creative team includes John Lee Beatty (scenic design), Robert Morgan (costume design), Pat Collins (lighting design) and John DeLuca (choreography).
