Jason Donovan, who has a long history with Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, will return to the family-friendly musical when the current U.K. tour plays Southampton's Mayflower Theatre.

Donovan played the title role in the ’90s in a sold-out, 18-month run of the biblical musical. He subsequently played the role of the Pharaoh in summer engagements at the London Palladium in 2019 and 2021 as well as a 2022 U.K. tour. He will again rock out nightly as the Pharaoh, singing "Song of the King," at the Mayflower May 13–18.

In a statement former Neighbours star Donovan said, “Joseph will always hold a special place in my heart, and to return to the show in the new Palladium production and later U.K. tour as Pharaoh was an incredible experience. Donny Osmond—who played more than 2,000 performances in U.S. and Canadian productions of Joseph… between 1992 and 1997 and later reprised his work in a 1999 film opposite Joan Collins, Richard Attenborough, and Maria Friedman—kicked off the current tour December 3–29, 2024, at Scotland's Edinburgh Playhouse. 

Joe McElderry is playing the Pharaoh for much of the remainder of the tour, which is led by Christina Bianco as the Narrator and Adam Filipe as Joseph. The production is currently playing Oxford's New Theatre through January 11.

The cast also features Hugh Cotton as Reuben and Will Haswell as Simeon, alongside Aaron Archer, Bella Baldock, Daniel Bowskill, Imogen Bowtell, Taylor Bridges, Joseph Brownlie-Johnson, Joseph Craig, Davide Fienauri, Ellie Greenway, Oliver Hawes, Kiera Haynes, Siobhan James, Ben Lancaster, Nicole Lupino, Bradley Perret, Harvey Shulver, Jessica Sutton, Charley Warburton, Jenna Warne, and Alex Woodward.

The children’s company consists of Luke Beggs, Sofija Bele, Sidney Bond, Chloe Boyle, Coco Chapman, Charlie Cox, Max Crisp, Shae Marie David, Isabelle Chiara Dawodu, Josh Desai, Erin Donovan, Jasper Eglin, Safia Francis, Ernie Seiji Fransella, Marisia Georgiannaki, Poppy Graham, Coco-Lili Hodder, Poppy Kunorubwe, Eliott Marsden, Alex Neophytou, Shyanne Ononiwu, Rio-Blake Power, Leia O'Sullivan, Zachary Richardson, Daniel Rodriguez Castillo, Felix Schmitt, Dexter Seaton, Azalea-Belle Sharp, Arthur Tennant, and Raine Williamson.

The tour of the family-friendly biblical musical features direction by Laurence Connor, choreography by JoAnn M. Hunter, set and costume design by Morgan Large, lighting design by Ben Cracknell, sound design by Gareth Owen, wig, hair, and makeup design by Sam Cox, orchestrations by John Cameron, musical supervision and direction by John Rigby, casting by David Grindrod, and children's casting by Amy Beadel.
