Maxwell has also been cast in the Broadway production of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. According to her spokesperson, Maxwell will play Baroness Bomburst, the role created in the original film by Anna Quayle. Although it has not been confirmed, Playbill On-Line has also learned that the Broadway company of the new musical may also include Erin Dilly, Marc Kudisch, Raul Esparza, Robert Sella and Chip Zien.
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, which is currently playing in London, will begin previews at the Ford Center for the Performing Arts March 27, 2005, with an official opening scheduled for April 28, 2005. Based on Ian Fleming's novel and film of the same name, Chitty features music and lyrics by Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman. Song titles include "Truly Scrumptious," "Toot Sweets," "Hushabye Mountain" and the Oscar-nominated title song "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang."
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang will feature direction by Adrian Noble, musical staging by Gillian Lynne, sets and costumes by Anthony Ward, lighting by Mark Henderson and sound design by Andrew Bruce.
On Broadway Jan Maxwell has been seen in Sixteen Wounded, Match, The Dinner Party, The Sound of Music, A Doll's House, Dancing at Lughnasa and City of Angels.
