Italian film and theatre actor Lino Troisi died yesterdeay, May 4, in Rome. He was one of director Giorgio Strehler's favourite actors and starred in many of his latest mountings including the acclaimed revivals of Goldoni's Le Baruffe Chiozzotte (The Chioggian Squabbles) and Pirandello's I Giganti della Montagna (The Mountain Giants).
He also worked extensively at the cinema with, among others, director and actor Massimo Troisi and Academy Award winner Giuseppe Tornatore, playing major roles alongside Alain Delon, Giancarlo Giannini and Anthony Quinn.
His voice was also very popular, as he dubbed Telly Savalas in the highly successful television serial Kojak.
Lino Troisi will be buried May 5 in his home town of Maddaloni, in Southern Italy.
