In a press release issued by Goodspeed Musicals, The Honeymooners has been removed from the 2015 season because "Goodspeed has been told that the show is ready for Broadway."
Invite-only workshop presentations of the musical (presented by Goodspeed Musicals, in association with Jeffrey Finn Productions, under a license from CBS Broadcasting, Inc.) were held Nov. 6-7, 2014, at New 42nd Street Studios.
Broadway press agents who have been attached to the project since its November reading told Playbill.com, "We are not making an official announcement at this time but are very excited about the future prospects following a successful November workshop."
A Wonderful Life, adapted from the Frank Capra film "It's A Wonderful Life," replaces The Honeymooners in Goodspeed's season and will begin performances this fall. Featuring book and lyrics by Tony, Grammy and Pulitzer Prize winner Sheldon Harnick and music by Grammy and Emmy Award winner Joe Raposo, A Wonderful Life will run Sept. 18-Nov. 29.
The three-show Goodspeed Opera House season will now commence with the classic American musical Guys and Dolls (April 10-June 20), followed by La Cage aux Folles (June 26-Sept. 6). The Honeymooners workshop cast featured Tony Award winner Michael McGrath as Ralph Kramden, four-time Emmy Award winner and Tony Award nominee Hank Azaria as Ed Norton, Drama Desk Award nominee Leslie Kritzer as Alice Kramden and Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Award nominee Megan Hilty as Trixie Norton.
Tony Award winner John Rando directed the musical comedy, with choreography by Emmy Award winner Joshua Bergasse. The Honeymooners features a book by Dusty Kay and Bill Nuss, music by Stephen Weiner and lyrics by Peter Mills.
Tickets purchased for Goodspeed's Honeymooners will be honored for the same date/time for A Wonderful Life. Ticket buyers may contact the box office if they wish to exchange tickets or request a refund.
