Education News International Thespian Festival Announces 2025 Main Stage Productions

This year's festival main stage will feature Hadestown: Teen Edition, Little Women, The Drowsy Chaperone JR., and more.

The Educational Theatre Association (EdTA) has announced the eight high schools whose theatre troupes will perform on the main stage at this year's International Thespian Festival (ITF). The annual teen theatre event will be held June 22-27 at Indiana University in Bloomington.

More than 30 high-caliber high school productions were screened this year for the eight available slots. The resulting lineups includes four musicals and four plays, six schools showcasing their troupe for the first time, and six titles that have never been seen on the ITF main stage.

The featured productions will include Dubuque Senior High School's The Revolutionists (Dubuque, IA), Martin Luther King High School's The Drowsy Chaperone JR. (Riverside, CA), McKinney North High School's Suite Surrender (McKinney, TX), Meadowdale High School's Eurydice (Lynnwood, WA), Millard West High School's Little Women (Omaha, NE), OCVTS Performing Arts Academy's Harry Potter and the Cursed Child: High School Edition (Toms River, NJ), Parker High School's Hadestown: Teen Edition (Janesville, WI), and Rock Ridge Performing Arts' The Prince of Egypt (Ashburn, VA).

“We are delighted to welcome these eight schools to ITF’s Main Stage, where students’ incredible artistry will take center stage," Dr. Jennifer Katona, EdTA’s executive director, said in a statement. "This moment is also a celebration of the dedicated educators who nurture their creativity and bring these productions to life."

Beyond main stage performances, ITF offers a one-act festival, hundreds of interactive workshops, and a college fair with admission auditions linking students to top theatre programs. Participants can also engage in a developmental workshop of a commissioned one-act play with Stage Partners, collaborate on an original piece with The 24 Hour Plays, and more.
