As part of its discovery series, Indiana Repertory Theatre presents the world premiere of I Am Somebody: Exploring African-American Women, a one-woman show honoring African-American women who have fought for freedom, justice and equality, running Feb. 1-22.
Somebody was conceived by the show's performer Connie Oates, and developed by IRT. It follows five African-American women, beginning with an African woman before slavery, then introducing three of the most famous American women, and ending with a contemporary African American woman.
The three women brought to life are Harriet Tubman, who brought more than 300 slaves to freedom, Ida B. Wells, who became a radical and respected journalist, and Madam CJ Walker, who became the first self-made female millionaire in American history.
I Am Somebody runs on Saturdays, 2 PM & 6 PM, through Feb 22. Tickets are available by calling (317) 635-5277, ext. 430 or 431. For more information about Indiana Repertory Theatre please refer to the regional listing on Playbill On-Line.
