Paula Vogel’s Tony-nominated play Indecent will be available for viewing on BroadwayHD beginning January 25. As previously announced, the Broadway production was filmed August 3, 2017, during its history-making extension, and was scheduled to be released in January in honor of International Holocaust Remembrance Day (January 27).
Indecent details some of the history behind Sholem Asch’s 1923 play God of Vengeance, a love story about two women and a celebration of art and immigrants. The play with music received its New York premiere at Off-Broadway’s Vineyard Theatre before transferring to the Cort Theatre on Broadway, where it officially opened April 18.
Shortly after the 2017 Tony Awards, where Indecent won awards for director Rebecca Taichman and lighting designer Christopher Akerlind, the production announced it would close June 25.
The closing announcement was followed by an immediate uptick in sales and a show of support from the theatre community, prompting Broadway producer Daryl Roth to announce that she was tearing up the show’s closing notice to enable the production to run through August 6. The extension allowed for the filming of Indecent.
