Camille A. Brown Honored by International Society for the Performing Arts
Tony Award-nominated choreographer and director Camille A. Brown (Choir Boy) is the recipient of the 2021 Distinguished Artist Award from ISPA. The global association of more than 500 arts management leaders recognizes outstanding individuals for their contribution to the arts and their communities with the award. The first ISPA Award was presented in 1975 to Beverly Sills. Other Distinguished Artists include Taylor Mac, Anna Deavere Smith, Audra McDonald, Merce Cunningham, Pina Bausch, Philip Glass, Alvin Ailey and Martha Graham. In addition to this honor, Brown and her dance company, Camille A. Brown & Dancers, was recently honored with an Andrew W. Mellon Foundation grant award of $355,000 to participate in a five-week Bubble Residency at PS21, in Chatham, New York.
Lin-Manuel Miranda Receives Inspire Award From Hollywood Critics Association
The HCA has chosen multi-award winning, multi-hyphenate Lin-Manuel Miranda for this year's Inspire Award, given to an individual in the entertainment industry whose work serves as an inspiration to others. “Miranda’s work on the Broadway stage has spoken to an entire generation, and his recent work in film and television has only continued to expand upon his talent in additional mediums. Miranda is a pioneer and his passion shines through in everything that he touches," says HCA Vice Chair Ashley Menzel. The fuorth annual HCA Awards Ceremony, which will also honor writer-director Emerald Fennell with the HCA Filmmaker on the Rise Award and composer Emile Mosseri with the Artisan on the Rise Award, will stream March 5.
Submissions Open for Theatre Accelerator: New Reality Edition Musical Theatre Development Program
The immersive virtual musical theatre development program from Apples and Orange Arts is geared specifically towards developing and distributing musicals in mixed realities. Chosen participants will explore how AR and VR can be used to help develop, rehearse, and/or distribute their musicals. Teams will receive technology to assist development and mentorship from top professionals in emerging tech fields. The program culminates with “Sing Tank,” where participants present their projects to theatre and tech industry veterans, with at least one of the competing shows receiving a full-length virtual reading.
