Cleopatra, an immersive new pop musical will take over New York City's Chelsea Music Hall beginning October 23. The show, which fuses music, dance, theatre, and nightlife (a live DJ is on site), invites the audience into a lavish party thrown by the legendary Queen of the Nile.
RuPaul’s Drag Race contestant Dusty Ray Bottoms will star as the Mistress of Ceremonies, and Nya (Motown: The Musical) and Christian Brailsford (The Lion King) will lead the cast in the roles of the ill-fated lovers, Cleopatra and Marc Antony.
Directed and choreographed by JT Horenstein, Cleopatra features music and lyrics by Jeff Daye and lyrics by Laura Kleinbaum. The production is set to officially open November 7, with further casting to be announced at a later date.
The creative team includes costume designer and stylist Nicolas Putvinski, scenic designer Christopher Browser, lighting designer Joe Cantalupo, sound designer Drew Levy, electronic music designer Lloyd Kikoler, and vocal arranger Brian Usifer.
Daye and lyricist Kleinbaum previously collaborated on Cleopatra: The New Pop Experience, which played a limited run at Theatre for the New City in 2017 (additional lyrics were by Drew Fornarola).
