Immersive Mamma Mia! The Party Will Launch in January | Playbill

News Immersive Mamma Mia! The Party Will Launch in January An immersive version of the international hit Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus musical Mamma Mia! will make its debut in 2016 at Grona Lund, an amusement park in Stockholm, Sweden, according to the New York Times.

Titled Mamma Mia! The Party, performances will begin in January in the amusement park's beer hall, which will be converted into a Mediterranean restaurant, one similar to the Skopelos tavern seen in Mamma Mia!

Ulvaeus told the Times, "I've been sitting in theaters around the globe since we started, and have experienced that happy mood in the audience, where people stand up in the aisles and dance and sing…This is the next extension from that: transfer the mood to a restaurant – a Greek restaurant, of course – have a gigantic party, and tell a little story in real time."

Approximately one-dozen performers will be part of The Party, which will feature ABBA tunes and interaction between the cast and the audience. The storyline will fluctuate from night to night.

Should the initial staging prove successful, other cities may join The Party.
