I’m Not a Comedian…I’m Lenny Bruce, which chronicles the comedy, alleged obscenity, and untimely death of the comic legend, will end its extended run on June 8 at The Box.
A national tour is expected to follow.
Written by and starring Ronnie Marmo, the solo play premiered at the Cutting Room November 4, 2018, and ended its extended run there January 25. The production now features actor and burlesque artist Pearls Daily.
Marmo chronicles the life, death, and legacy of the controversial comedian. Accused of obscenity in his acts, Bruce fought for freedom of speech all the way to the Supreme Court. He accidentally died of an overdose in 1966 while out on appeal.
Tony Award winner Joe Mantegna directs. Performances take place Thursdays through Saturdays. A portion of the proceeds will go to the Lenny Bruce Memorial Foundation.
