The latest film adaptation of the Charles Dickens classic A Christmas Carol will feature three-time Oscar nominee Johnny Depp (Sweeney Todd, Finding Neverland, Pirates of the Caribbean) in the title role, joined by stage and screen stars Tramell Tillman and Olivier winner Ian McKellen.
Entitled Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol, the Paramount film, directed by Ti West, is aiming for a November 13, 2026, release.
Featuring a screenplay by Nathaniel Halpern, the film will reportedly cast Emmy winner Tillman (Severance, Mission: Impossible—The Final Reckoning, The Great Society) as the Ghost of Christmas Present. McKellen's character has yet to be named, and Oscar nominee Andrea Riseborough (To Leslie) has also joined the cast.
The newest version of the Dickens tale, Deadline reports, "follows one man’s supernatural journey to face his past, present, and future, and fight for a second chance."
Emma Watts is producing the London-set ghost story, with Stephen Deuters, Jason Forman Adam Bohling, and David Reid executive producing.
A two-time Oscar nominee—for his performances in Gods and Monsters and The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring—McKellen won a Tony Award for his work in Amadeus. His other Broadway credits include No Man's Land, Waiting for Godot, The Promise, Ian McKellen: Acting Shakespeare, Wild Honey, Ian McKellen: A Knight Out at the Lyceum, and Dance of Death.
