The Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival has unveiled its 2019 summer season, including its first-ever musical: Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's award-winning Into the Woods. The lineup also features Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing and Cymbeline; a remount of HVSF's 2019 regional tour of Julius Caesar; and a new adaptation of Cyrano de Bergerac titled simply, Cyrano.

Cyrano is an adaptation of Edmond Rostand’s Cyrano de Bergerac written by Jason O’Connell and Brenda Withers featuring a five-person cast.

Into the Woods, the Tony-winning musical that weaves fairytale characters and its own dark magic, will be directed by Jenn Thompson, with dates and further casting to be announced.

Much Ado About Nothing will be directed by May Adrales, and Cymbeline will be directed by Artistic Director Davis McCallum. Dates and casting will also be announced at a later date.

“We’ve assembled a season of bold, profound, and deeply complex stories,” said McCallum. “More than any other venue in the American theatre that I know of, the HVSF Theater Tent is the perfect home for these sorts of comical-tragical hybrids. Under our tent, with the Hudson River at our back and the stars overhead, multi-tonal plays can be unfurled with incredible clarity, and I’m thrilled to share these ambitious productions with our audience.

The season will also feature free matinees and touring performances of HVSF’s remounted spring 2019 regional school tour of Julius Caesar.
