It's the middle of winter, yet it's time to go to camp -- "Camp Alamo," Houston's Theater LaB's season of camp theatre, beginning Jan. 5 with Charles Busch's Die! Mommy! Die!. Jim Miller directs the comedy running through Feb. 13.
After its world premiere and four-month run in Los Angeles, Die! Mommy! Die comes directly to Houston for its U.S. regional premiere. A parody of 1960s gothic horror films and the classic Greek drama Electra, Die! is set in the home of aging diva singer Angela Andrews Sussman, who may just have to kill her producer husband to run off with her gigolo boyfriend. Busch is well known for his campy parodies, including Psycho Beach Party and Vampire Lesbians of Sodom.
Joel Sandel stars as Angela Andrews Sussman. Also in the cast are Jerry Miller, Kit Fordyce, Sarah Lilley, Tyler Jones and Janice Dickard.
Tickets are $22-$20 and available by calling the box office at (713) 868-7516. The Theatre LaB Houston is located at 1706 Alamo.
