The film premiered Aug. 11 in Los Angeles, and has been rolling out like a rock band road-show attraction, meaning that it has been shown in select venues around the country where patrons can buy reserved seat tickets in advance. It was scheduled to tour to Dallas, New Orleans, Atlanta, Philadelphia Toronto, Chicago and three dozen other cities before returning to Los Angeles Oct. 18. The New York premiere is scheduled for Sept. 7 at the Beekman Theatre. Here is the complete itinerary.
Sorvino (The Baker's Wife, That Championship Season) plays God, whose chief negotiator Pascal (Rent, Aida) tries to avert all-out war with Lucifer (played by scriptwriter Terrance Zdunich), who is determined to leave Hades, which is imagined as a carnival, and crash the Pearly Gates of Paradise.
Also featured in the cast is Barry Bostwick, who played Danny Zuko in the original Broadway Grease, but who is better known for the role of Brad in another campfest, The Rocky Horror Show on stage and film. Plus David Hasselhoff (both title characters in Jekyll & Hyde), Ted Neeley (title character in Jesus Christ Superstar), horror legend Bill Mosely and rapper Tech N9ne.
The movie has a score by Zdunich and Saar Hendelman, and is directed by another horror veteran, Darren Lynn Bousman ("Saw II," "Saw III" and "Saw IV"). To order tickets, visit Thedevilscarnival.com/tickets.
