The drawing room comedy will play at the California stage from Jan. 31-March 12, 2006 with an opening night slated for Feb. 8.
Set at the turn of the century, Boston Marriage follows the story of two upper class, financially independent women who share a romantic bond. (The title refers to the term commonly used to describe two women living together without apparent male companionship or support.) The work debuted near Boston in 1999 at American Repertory Theatre in Cambridge, Massachusetts then headed to London's Donmar Warehouse in 2001 before playing Off-Broadway's Public Theater in 2002.
The design team includes Takeshi Kata (scenic) and Debra McGuire (costumes). Mary Michele Miner will serves as stage manager.
Pidgeon — who originated the role of Claire — has appeared in a number of her husband's works including the films "State and Main," "Heist," "The Spanish Prisoner," "Edmond," and "Homicide" among others, on stage in The Old Neighborhood, Oleanna and Speed The Plow. The actress/singer/songwriter also appears in the current Steve Martin film, "Shopgirl."
Silverstone made her Broadway debut in The Graduate and is known for her film work in "Clueless," "First Kiss," "Batman and Robin," "Blast From the Past," "Love's Labour's Lost," and on television in NBC's "Miss Match." Academy Award winner Steenburgen earned her Oscar for her turn in "Melvin and Howard." The actress — recently seen on the CBS series "Joan of Arcadia" and HBO's "Curb Your Enthusiasm" — has also appeared in "Elf," "Casa De Los Babys," "Life as a House," "Sunshine State" and more. Her stage credits include The Beginning of August, Holiday, Candida and Marvin's Room.
The Gefffen currently presents Tennessee Williams' Cat on a Hot Tin Roof starring John Goodman through Dec. 18. The season will continue with Arthur Miller's All My Sons (April 11-May 21, 2006) and Sam Shepard's The God of Hell (June 20-July 30, 2006).
