R&H Theatricals, a division of Rodgers and Hammerstein, An Imagem Company, has announced that Holiday Inn, The New Irving Berlin Musical is now available for licensing by professional theatres.
“We are thrilled to add another Irving Berlin title to the catalog,” commented Ted Chapin, president and chief creative officer of Rodgers & Hammerstein, in a press statement. “Along with a great collection of songs—including one that's never been heard before—it's a heartfelt story that leaves a smile on your face.”
The new musical—with music and lyrics by Irving Berlin and a book by Gordon Greenberg and Chad Hodge—features over 20 classic songs from the Berlin catalog, including “Steppin’ Out With My Baby,” “Shaking the Blues Away,” “Easter Parade,” “Cheek to Cheek,” and “Heatwave.” A previously announced cast album is currently in the works and will be released at a later date.
Inspired by the 1942 film of the same name, Holiday Inn tells the story of Jim, who leaves the bright lights of show business for the peace and quiet of a Connecticut farmhouse. With schoolteacher Linda, the two turn the farmhouse into a fabulous inn where every holiday is celebrated with dazzling performances.
The show, produced by Roundabout Theatre Company, began previews on Broadway at Studio 54 September 1, 2016, and officially opened October 6. The principal cast was made up of Bryce Pinkham, Danny Rutigliano, Megan Lawrence, Megan Sikora, Corbin Bleu, and Lora Lee Gayer.
