Hershey Felder takes to the stage as Leonard Bernstein in Maestro for a limited engagement that begins August 31 at 59E59 Theaters Off-Broadway. The musical bioplay celebrates the life of the great composer.
Spanning the entire 20th century, Maestro combines Bernstein’s personal story and music with the music of classical composers and contemporaries that inspired him. The show, directed by Joel Zwick, officially opens September 11 and is scheduled to play through October 16. Maestro features a book by Felder with music by Bernstein and others.
“Leonard Bernstein, arguably America’s greatest musician, broke through every artistic ceiling possible to become the world’s musical ambassador,” state production notes. “Conductor, composer, pianist, author, teacher, librettist, television star...for Leonard Bernstein, boundaries simply did not exist.”
