Film & TV News Groundhog Day Composer Lands Film Role Tim Minchin will join Jamie Foxx in a new film for Lionsgate due in 2018.

Tim Minchin—the composer and lyricist of the forthcoming Broadway musical Groundhog Day, which begins previews March 1 at the August Wilson Theatre—will play Friar Tuck in the new film Robin Hood: Origins, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The Lionsgate film will also feature Taron Egerton in the title role, Jamie Foxx as Little John, Eve Hewson as Maid Marian, plus Jamie Dornan and Ben Mendelsohn.

Otto Bathurst will direct the action feature, which is currently scheduled to arrive in cinemas March 23, 2018. The motion picture will be shot in Budapest, Hungary.

Minchin is the composer and lyricist of the Tony Award-winning Matilda. He is also writing the music and lyrics for the DreamWorks animated film Larrikins, which he will co-direct. His acting credits include No Activity, The Secret River, Californication, Storm, and The Lost Thing.
