The episode, “Song Beneath the Song,” is described as, “a cataclysmic event [that] leaves the doctors shaken; Callie, on the verge of a life-changing moment, starts imagining about the hospital and her friends.”
When a pregnant Callie Torres, played by Ramirez, is injured during a car accident, she is left in critical condition. In an out-of-body experience, she expresses herself through song.
Actress Kate Walsh will return to the show as Dr. Addison Montgomery for the musical event.
Songs that will be used in the episode are the Fray's "How to Save a Life," "Chasing Cars" by Snow Patrol, and "The Story" by Brandi Carlile.
Ramirez won the Tony Award in 2005 for her performance in Spamalot. She has also appeared on Broadway in A Class Act, The Gershwins' Fascinating Rhythm and The Capeman.
