The groundbreaking climate activist will discuss her new book, and the event will be livestreamed

Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg will appear at the Edinburgh Playhouse this August, as part of the Edinburgh International Book Festival. Thunberg will a discussion on climate change and and her recent publication of The Climate Book, which features information, research, and wisdom from over 100 experts, including scientists, artists, Indigenous leaders, and those living on the frontlines of climate change.

The event, led by Gemma Cairney, will be held August 13, and is sponsored by the Open University in Scotland, and presented in association with the Edinburgh International Festival.  Three hundred free tickets have been made available for local community groups and young people, and half price tickets have been made available for those under the age of 26. A limited number of signed copies of The Climate Book will be available to purchase at the event for £23.

Unfortunately, the event is completely sold out. But due to popular demand, the Edinburgh International Book Festival is livestreaming the event. Tickets for the livestream can be purchased here.

The Edinburgh International Book Festival is an annual festival running concurrently with the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and the Edinburgh International Festival. It celebrates literature, written word, and ideas—and showcases emerging international writers and leading British and Scottish writers. This year's Book Festival runs August 12-28, and will host over 500 events featuring over 550 authors and illustrators, with over 100 events available for livestreaming anywhere across the globe. The in-person events will take place at the Book Festival's village at Edinburgh College of Art, in the heart of the city's Old Town at Lauriston Place. 

Some events at the Edinburgh International Book Festival will highlight theatre and arts-affiliated literature, like a discussion on "Rethinking Shakespeare" led by writers Sophie Duncan and Isabelle Schuler. To see what events are offered this year and to discover more information, visit here.
