We still have two months to wait before Jonathan Groff takes on singer Bobby Darin in the new jukebox biomusical Just In Time on Broadway, but his surrounding cast of characters has filled out!
Gracie Lawrence, of the band Lawrence and the television show The Sex Lives of College Girls, will make her Broadway musical debut as Connie Francis, one of the great loves of Darin's life. Additionally, Drama Desk nominee Emily Bergl (Good Night, Oscar) will play Nina Cassotto, Darin's mother, and Mary Douvon, Darin's mother in law.
Performances begin March 28, ahead of an April 23 opening night at the Circle in the Square Theatre. Tony winner Alex Timbers will be at the helm of the immersive staging that will see the theatre transformed into an intimate nightclub with a live, onstage big band. The show tracks Darin's life story and will see Groff performing his greatest hits, also including "Splish Splash" and "Mack the Knife."
The cast will also include Joe Barbara, Michele Pawk, Lance Roberts, Caesar Samayoa, Christine Cornish, Julia Grondin, Valeria Yamin, John Treacy Egan, Tari Kelly, Matt Magnusson, Khori Michelle Petinaud, and Larkin Reilly.
The work, developed by Timbers and based on an original concept by Ted Chapin, features a book by Tony winner Warren Leight and Isaac Oliver (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel). Shannon Lewis will choreograph, with music supervision and arrangements by Andrew Resnick. The production will feature scenic design by two-time Tony winner Derek McLane (Death Becomes Her), costume design by eight-time Tony winner Catherine Zuber (Moulin Rouge!), lighting design by Tony winner Justin Townsend (Here Lies Love), and sound design by Tony winner Peter Hylenski (Maybe Happy Ending). Tom Kirdahy, Robert Ahrens, John Frost, and Groff are producing.
Groff won a Tony Award last year for his performance in the Tony-winning revival of Merrily We Roll Along, and has also appeared on Broadway in Spring Awakening and Hamilton.
