San Diego's Old Globe Theatre's revival of Eugene O'Neill's A Moon For The Misbegotten opened Jan. 25 and will run through March 2. In the roles made famous by Jason Robards and Colleen Dewhurst (as James Tyrone, Jr. and Josie Hogan) are Bruce Gooch and Katherine McGrath. A playwright as well as an actor, Gooch is the author of Dirt, Horse Heavens and Splittin'. McGrath has appeared in 25 productions at the Old Globe Theatre and lists among her regional credits New Orleans Rep, the Long Wharf, Hartford Stage, the Guthrie and the Kennedy Center. Also appearing in this production are Ron Choularton and David Mann.
In O'Neill's 1943 play, two misfits find comfort in each other's arms but know that when dawn comes, their dreams will be betrayed.
John Rando, who directed Sylvia at the Old Globe, will stage Moon. His Off-Broadway work includes David Ives' Ancient History and the Pearl Theatre's Venetian Twins.
Robert Morgan designed the sets and costumes for Moon, Ashley York Kennedy the lighting, Jeff Ladman the sound.
Also in the cast are Ron Choularton (Mike), David Mann (T. Stedman Harder) and Michael McGuire (Phil).
