David Gonzalez, who won critical acclaim with his Sofrito! at the New Victory, returns to that family-oriented venue with jazz group The D.D. Jackson Trio in his latest, MytholoJAZZ, playing Feb. 12-21.

Gonzalez infuses Greek and South African myths with the be-bop stylings of D.D. Jackson, dubbed by the Village Voice as "one of the most innovative musicians of his generation." In the first segment, titled Jazz Orpheus, the audience journeys into Hades, while Orpheus swings and serenades his way past Cereberus and Charon, on the search for Orpheus' wife, Eurydice. In the second story, Delgadina, a Chilean girl befriends a magical snake, endowing her with the Midas-esque "golden touch."

Performer/story-teller Gonzalez has appeared in numerous theatres throughout the U.S. and England, including Lincoln Center, The Smithsonian, and The Royal National. He was the recipient of 1998's Helen Hayes Performing Artist of the Year Award.

For tickets ($10-$25) for MytholoJAZZ or any of the shows in New Victory's season, call Tele-charge at (212) 239-6200.
