Gerard Alessandrini, the creator of Spamilton and the Forbidden Broadway parody series, is putting down his satirical skewer to create Anything Can Happen In The Theater: The Songs of Maury Yeston, a revue of tunes by the composer of Nine, Titanic, Grand Hotel, and other musicals.
Broadway stars Robert Cuccioli (Jekyll & Hyde), Jill Paice (Matilda, Yeston's Death Takes a Holiday), Justin Keyes (The Apple Tree), Alex Getlin, and Michael Maliakel (Monsoon Wedding) will be featured in the revue, which will be performed October 4–21 at the Triad nightclub, located at 158 West 72nd Street in Manhattan.
Alessandrini, who earned a special Tony Award for Excellence in Theatre for his work on Forbidden Broadway, conceived the evening, and will direct. Greg Jarrett (Dames at Sea, Gigi, Side Show) will be musical director.
Yeston’s Nine (1982) and Titanic (1997) both earned him Tony Awards for Best Score and Best Musical, plus Grammy nominations. Among his less known musicals are Phantom, Death Takes a Holiday, and In The Beginning. He also wrote Tom Sawyer—A Ballet In Three Acts, Goya—A Life in Song, and the song cycle December Songs.
