"This truly musical comedy variety show is a return to the classic American entertainment…vaudeville, in all its original glamour and excellence," according to the May 9 announcement.
The show is loosely based on the annual Palm Springs Follies that star famous faces of yesteryear. This latest version played Florida recently with Florence Henderson, who will star on Broadway.
"The Follies is not another revival, but a unique salute to the fabulous talent of today and yesterday," according to the pitch. "It showcases superb performers and ageless talents (the cast are all between the ages of 55 and 90!)."
Yes, there will be showgirls of a certain age, with credits that range from Vegas to Europe.
Henderson (a Broadway and touring star before she was known for TV's "The Brady Bunch") will introduce a variety of performers, with guest artists rotating every few weeks. The Broadway Follies will be directed by Jean Ann Ryan. Musical director and arranger is Johnny Harris. Set design is by Tom John; lighting design by James K. Ryan III and costume design by Daniel Storey.
No theatre or dates have been announced for this Broadway-bound project.
