Alice By Heart, the new Off-Broadway musical inspired by Alice in Wonderland from Spring Awakening creators Duncan Sheik and Steven Sater, began performances January 30 ahead of a February 26 opening. The musical, directed by Jessie Nelson, is scheduled to run through March 31 at the Robert W. Wilson MCC Theater Space.
Resetting the action in a London tube station during World War II, Alice By Heart follows Alice Spencer (Molly Gordon) as her budding teen life is turned upside down, and she escapes with her childhood friend Alfred (Colton Ryan, who does double duty as the White Rabbit) into their most cherished book. They journey down the rabbit hole to Wonderland, finding first love, loss, and the courage to move forward, and their imaginations transform even the harshest circumstances.
