On September 29 two-time Tony winner Patti LuPone releases her latest album, Patti LuPone Don’t Monkey With Broadway, on the Broadway Records label.
Currently on Broadway in the new musical War Paint, LuPone recorded the album live at the John W. Engeman Theatre in Northport, Long Island. With music direction and arrangements by Joseph Thalken, the two-disc album expresses LuPone’s concern for the current path of Broadway in an ode to the art she loves.
Ahead of the release, LuPone has offered Playbill an exclusive first listen to her rendition of “A Lot of Livin’ To Do” from Bye Bye Birdie. Though LuPone only performed in the show as an amateur—when she was about 15 years old with the Patio Players—the score still holds a place in her heart: “I had a little dilemma that has plagued me to this day. I didn’t want to sing just Rosie’s songs. I mean, Rosie has great songs, but so does Conrad.”
