Oscar, Emmy, Tony and Golden Globe-winning actor Ellen Burstyn will make her Australian stage debut in a new production of Moisés Kaufman’s Tony-nominated play with music 33 Variations.
The production, directed by Gary Abrahams, is scheduled for April 2019 at the Comedy Theatre in Melbourne.
In 33 Variations, seen on Broadway in 2009 starring Jane Fonda, musicologist Katherine Brandt attempts to uncover the motivation behind Beethoven's Diabelli Variations, a series of 33 variations on an ordinary waltz by a composer he felt was beneath him.
Burstyn, last seen on Broadway in William Inge's Picnic, will star as Katherine, with further casting to be announced at a later date.
The Australian production is presented by Cameron Lukey and Neil Gooding Productions in association with Ellis Productions. For more information visit Marrinergroup.com.au.
