Eleri Ward headlines a concert at NYC's City Winery February 2, playing an evening of her folk-inspired Sondheim covers. The 7:30 PM concert launches The Tender Tour, with stops planned in Boston, Washington, D.C., Chicago, Philadelphia, and more.
The concerts celebrate her second album release, Keep a Tender Distance. Digitally released last year and getting a CD edition February 24 (pre-order here), the album includes 14 tracks of Ward's take on songs by the legendary, late composer-lyricist, including "Merrily We Roll Along," "Another Hundred People," and "Move On." The release is a follow-up to A Perfect Little Death, which also released last year.
Ward's acoustic covers of Sondheim's songs have amassed a viral cult following and received approval from the late Mr. Sondheim himself before his passing. Broadway alum Josh Groban is also reportedly a fan, recently inviting Ward to be the opening act on his Harmony national tour. Ward recently made her Off-Broadway debut in MCC's Only Gold and played a concert at NYC's Sony Hall in December.
