The Edinburgh Festival Fringe is the biggest arts festival in the world, with over 3,000 shows. This year, Playbill will be going to Edinburgh in August for the festival and we’re taking you with us. The Stand, one of the most in-demand comedy clubs in the U.K., has announced an all-star Fringe program to celebrate its 25th anniversary. 

Founded in 1998, The Stand's open mic is considered one of the most competitive in the U.K. scene, with waiting lists regularly extending past six months. Cowboy themed and nestled in Edinburgh's New Town, the venue has previously served as a launching pad for Fern Brady, Josie Long, Dylan Moran, Jo Caulfield, Frankie Boyle, Janey Godley, Danny Bhoy, Susie McCabe, Marc Jennings, Jay Lafferty, Des Clark, Liam Withnail, Stuart McPherson, Christopher Macarthur-Boyd, Larry Dean, Amy Matthews, Marjolein Robertson, Gareth Waugh, Billy Kirkwood, Gareth Mutch, and many more.

25 Years of Red Raw has been curated to feature both amateur and professional comedians from across the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, with a different lineup presented every evening.

“It’s the holy grail of open mic nights,” said Louis Cammell of The Stand. “And strictly speaking, that’s a bit of a misnomer seeing as the waiting list is about six months long. It’s that popular because it’s a milestone for so many comedians. After all, it’s where a 16-year-old Kevin Bridges and a 14-year-old Daniel Sloss cut their teeth.”
