Tony winners Eddie Redmayne and Alex Sharp are among the cast tapped for Aaron Sorkin's upcoming The Trial of the Chicago 7, according to Deadline. Oscar winner Sorkin, who penned the recent Broadway adaptation of To Kill a Mockingbird, has written the screenplay and is also directing, marking his second directorial undertaking (he made his directorial debut in 2017 with Molly's Game).
The Trial of the Chicago 7 will detail the infamous 1969 trial of seven defendants charged by the federal government with conspiracy and other charges. The real-life Chicago seven were Abbie Hoffman, Jerry Rubin, David Dellinger, Tom Hayden, Rennie Davis, John Froines, and Lee Weiner.
The cast of Chicago 7 will also include Sacha Baron Cohen (Hoffman) and Seth Rogen (Rubin). Redmayne will play Hayden, and Sharp will play Davis, alongside Jonathan Majors as Bobby Seale, the eighth man charged, whose trial was severed during the proceedings. Joseph Gordon-Levitt is tapped to play prosecutor Richard Schultz.
