Focus Features, Universal Pictures International, and Carnival Films announced that Downton Abbey: A New Era, the second sequel to the international hit TV series Downton Abbey, will now arrive in cinemas this spring.
The film, previously set for a March 18 debut, will now launch in the U.K. April 29 and subsequently in the U.S. May 20.
Directed by Simon Curtis, the film features original principal cast members Hugh Bonneville, Laura Carmichael, Jim Carter, Brendan Coyle, Michelle Dockery, Kevin Doyle, Joanne Froggatt, Matthew Goode, Harry Hadden-Paton, David Haig, Geraldine James, Robert James-Collier, Simon Jones, Allen Leech, Phyllis Logan, Elizabeth McGovern, Sophie McShera, Tuppence Middleton, Stephen Campbell Moore, Lesley Nicol, Kate Phillips, Maggie Smith, Imelda Staunton, and Penelope Wilton, joined by Hugh Dancy, Laura Haddock, Nathalie Baye, and Dominic West.
The film follows a journey to the South of France to uncover the mystery of the Dowager Countess’ newly inherited villa.
The screenplay is written by Downton creator and Oscar winner Julian Fellowes, with Emmy winners Gareth Neame and Liz Trubridge producing with Fellowes.
